Metrics From the Ground Up 2015 - Resources

On June 23 and 24 in DC, over 100 ANDE members and friends gathered in Washington DC to discuss common challenges and solutions in impact measurement.

Many of the conversations focused around how measurement can be more client-focused – whether that’s funders aligning the data that they ask for based on what investees need, or a social enterprise using data to better understanding the needs of its customers. We also emphasized the ways that data informs decision making, and how the evidence base can inform practice.

If you couldn't be at the event, take a look at these resources to get a sense for some of the ideas we discussed:

  • Measuring impact isn’t for everyone. The Goldilocks Project at IPA aims to help organizations determine when an evaluation really does add value, and when it does not.  Read more here.
  •  MIT’s D-Lab has developed a framework for research that draws from human centered approaches to development and design – read more about Lean Research here.
  • Root Capital provides principles and practical recommendations for taking a client-centric approach to impact evaluation.
  • How Pi Investments encourages a shift towards impact management, rather than just output measurement, in this SSIR piece
  • And finally, to get a sense for ANDE’s perspective on how measurement can add value to our members’ organizations and the sector as a whole, take a look at this vision for Metrics 3.0.
