East Africa Chapter Program Associate

You can pivot on a dime, and often can’t sleep until a problem is addressed.  You love the idea that your organizational and networking skills could contribute to a better livelihood for entrepreneurs throughout East Africa. 

Position Description

  • Assisting the Chapter Manager to manage the East Africa team and Chapter activities across 5 countries, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and Ethiopia.
  • Developing deeper engagement with existing members, while also recruiting new members to the network.
  • Managing a wide range of stakeholders and representing ANDE at meetings and events
  • Planning, coordinating and executing meetings and workshops including agenda development, managing contributors and logistics.
  • Conducting and coordinating knowledge and content creation for reports and presenting information through reports and graphics.
  • Developing communication and sharing information with members and the sector through regional newsletters, social media, etc.
  • Supporting grant and proposal writing
  • Running quarterly reports for HQ and Steering Committee
  • Conducting administrative tasks
  • Identifying relevant knowledge and initiatives to be communicated to members through presentations, webinars, Chapter meetings, and others events.
  • Understanding the current state of the SGB sector and what organizations are doing in order to promote strategic introductions and collaborations
  • Support planning process and strategy development for the Chapter
  • Develop ANDE as the go-to place for all things related to small and growing businesses in the sector, and become a recognized expert and thought leader in your own right
  • This role involves some travel within East Africa.

Target profile

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have excellent project management skills.
  • Have significant experience and appreciation for the complexities of network building.
  • Have an existing track record in developing and managing operations in East Africa.
  • Bring a relevant network of contacts in at least two countries in the region.
  • Thrive in a startup environment, where the onus is on you to make it work.
  • Be comfortable meeting with senior level government officials and high level donors – but also prepared to make the coffee and print nametags for events.
  • Have 3-7 years’ experience in partnership development, strategic and operational planning, project management and/or stakeholder management.
  • Able to travel up to 30% of the time within the region. Comfortable working non-traditional hours with an organization headquartered in the United States (meaning many evening and/or early morning  calls or meetings)
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Position is only open to East African applicants with the necessary permissions to work in Kenya.
