Metrics from the Ground Up 2019

Registration for the 2019 Metrics from the Ground Up is now open!

ANDE is excited to present the 11th Edition of Metrics from the Ground Up.  This two-day event brings together leading practitioners in the SGB sector with research and evaluation experts to share insights and address common challenges in impact measurement.

In 2009, ANDE hosted the first Metrics from the Ground Up conference in partnership with Grassroots Business Fund. The goal was to have an open and frank discussion about current tools and approaches in the field of impact measurement, and to leave with a better understanding of how to apply these tools in an effective way.

Theme

The theme of this year's conference is Impact Measurement with a Gender Lens.  A growing theme in the impact measurement space around the world is that of where gender fits in this practice, and what has been done to incorporate equality in this measurement.

As we’ve seen around the world, there has been a shift towards improving the levels of gender equality which has manifested in many ways—increased investment in women-owned businesses, improving the circumstances to allow more women to participate in the economy, among others. Now, there is a need to understand how these actions have affected gender equality. We hope to leverage this Metrics Conference to better understand the challenges of impact measurement and gender, not only in Mexico but throughout the contexts in which ANDE members operate.

Agenda

We are building an agenda that is focused on interactive sessions designed to surface expertise and experience in the room.  Sessions include a mix of technical dives into specific tools or methods, and discussions of field-level challenges and solutions. Review the 2018 agenda for a sense of what is in store.

For individuals, the agenda will create opportunities for you to see others’ approaches and share your own, provide actionable information, and Inspire you to push measurement forward at their organizations. For the field, the agenda will provide a platform to disseminate multiple field-building initiatives, and create collective solutions to common challenges.

Our aim is that through these discussions we will give participants a forum to define the impact measurement agenda with a gender lens and provide them with practical, hands-on resources to measure impact at their organizations. The agenda is under development in a collaborative process with ANDE members; those who would like to submit a session idea can find guidelines here.

Why attend?

“I feel like I've found a kindred group of highly intelligent, driven individuals who care deeply about measuring the impact of the work of not only their own organizations but of the sector at-large.”

Intimate Conversations. With a max of 100 participants all grappling with questions of impact assessment, conversations are focused, intimate, and fun.

Practical. We move conversations beyond theory to demonstrate real examples of what works (and what doesn’t work).

Transparent and Open. We ask that all participants come prepared not just to learn, but to share their expertise.

Conference Venue

The conference will be hosted at the Fiesta Americana Mérida in Mérida, Mexico. Its convenient location allows you to reach Mérida International Airport in 25 minutes and seven minutes from downtown Mérida.

Scholarships

There are limited scholarship funds available for those who would otherwise be unable to attend the conference. Priority will be given to researchers based in Latin America. Only one person from each organization is eligible for a scholarship. The deadline to apply was November 26, 2018

Session Submissions

We invite all conference attendees to submit their ideas for conference sessions, the goal being that the agenda's content is influenced by practitioners, for practitioners within the sector. Please be advised that we expect to receive many great ideas, which means that your session is not guaranteed a slot in the agenda and may be subject to alteration or combination with another similar session. Submit session ideas. The deadline to submit a session idea is November 26, 2018.
