“One Stop Shop” for agri-services delivery to smallholder farmers in Asia

The Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE) invites you to join the forth regional Learning Lab on Sustainable Agriculture to discuss challenges and best practices in Agriculture Small and Growing Business (SGB) in East and Southeast Asia. This lab aims to bring together stakeholders - ANDE members and key players in the agriculture ecosystem - to discuss key global and regional challenges ranging from Agri-Business Model, Sustainable Finance Innovation, Role of women as sustainable consumer and investor, AgTech and roles of technology in tackling climate change, energy access, and food security in the region.

 

This session will explore different business models to deliver Agri-Services to small holder farmers. These business models are designed to empower rural entrepreneurs to fulfill the needs of the farming community with the deployment of modern tools such as digital applications such as market links, ag inputs, supply, machinery services, and more.

The Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable agriculture is a not-for-profit organization that focuses on supporting the productivity of small-scale farmers in developing countries around the world. The mission is to create value for resource-poor small farmers in developing countries through innovation in sustainable agriculture and the activation of value chains.

Sylvie Desilles | Knowledge Manager | East-West Seed Knowledge Transfer

East-West Seed has played an important role in the improvement of tropical vegetable varieties that are adapted to local markets and growing conditions. The privately-owned company produces and markets a wide portfolio of hybrid and open-pollinated seeds. For many years, the company has recognized that access to quality seeds and sharing knowledge go hand in hand. East-West Seed is actively involved in farmer training and extension to support farmers with knowledge and skills in profitable vegetable production.

Jan Zellmann | Managing Director | EverGreen Labs

Evergreen Labs is a Vietnam-based consulting firm, project developer and company builder and invests in social & environmental ventures. Supported projects and ventures aim to impact the pressing environmental and social challenges of today through creative and scalable solutions. The service and project portfolio focuses on agriculture value chain, sustainable tourism, waste management and social entrepreneurship.

About Learning Lab Speakers


Herve Thieblemont | Director of Mekong Region | Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture

Herve Thieblemont is currently Regional Seed Business Development Lead in Asia, with the main objective of driving innovation in challenging environments and establishing public-private partnerships to accelerate poor-resource smallholders’ access to improved quality seeds. He worked 35 years for the private seed sector mostly at the international level in Europe, North America and Asia, and mainly in Marketing and Business Development roles coordinating cross-functional teams (R&D, P&S and Commercial). He grew up in an arable farm in the wheat and sugar beet belt in Champagne - France and hold an Engineering degree in Agronomy from AgroParisTech as well as a MBA from EM Lyon Business School, France.

 

Shahinur Islam | Agri-Services Bangladesh | Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture

Shahinur is a program manager of Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture Bangladesh, with the main objective of improvement of income, employment generation and livelihoods of smallholders farmers through Farmers Hub Agri-service business model. He had 12 years of work experience for development, Research & Market Development Projects in national and international NGOs and IRRI.

 

 

 

Spencer Morley | Chief Operations Officer | Farmforce

Spencer Morley is part of the Farmforce Operations Team and brings 15 years of commercial software delivery experience from projects around the world. He is currently based in South East Asia and has spent 8 years deploying web and mobile technology solutions in the financial services and agricultural sectors for clients across the developing world. Before shifting focus to technology for development, Spencer worked as an IT consultant in Europe focusing on mobile payments, eCommerce and technology outsourcing. 

 

 

 

 

Sylvie Desilles | Knowledge Manager | East-West Seed Knowledge Transfer

Sylvie is driven by finding new and innovative ways to reach farmers and provide them with technical knowledge that can help them improve their productivity and, ultimately, their income.  In her position as Knowledge Manager, she works directly with both farmers and EWS-KT teams in multiple countries across Asia and Africa.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Jan Zellmann | Managing Director | EverGreen Labs

Jan Zellmann is the managing director of Evergreen Labs, a social and environmental project development company, based in Vietnam. Activities are focused on sustainable business development and replication, fostering collaborations and closing existing funding gaps as well as providing support services to small enterprises in various sectors, including agriculture, waste management and sustainable tourism. Prior to co-founding Evergreen, Jan worked in Hong Kong, Germany and London in investment banking, transaction services and corporate finance.
