Each year, the Annual Conference is the largest gathering of ANDE members. The event is targeted at senior executives of ANDE member organizations, including leading investors, capacity development providers, foundations, banks, corporations, DFIs, and research institutions. The highly interactive agenda features workshops on solutions to common challenges, networking sessions, and plenaries with leading thinkers in the Small and Growing Business (SGB) space.

This year, given the recommendations to continue social distancing practices as the COVID-19 pandemic progresses, we are excited to convene members across geographies and time zones in a virtual format. To accommodate our global members, the conference's core hours will be 8-11 am and 6-9:30 pm ET.

In response to ANDE’s strategy and current events, this year’s conference will focus on four thematic pillars:

  1. Climate and Environmental Action: How can we support SGBs to scale to address climate change within their communities while increasing environmental sustainability in their own operations?
  2. Gender Equality: How can we support women entrepreneurs and improve opportunities for women in the SGB sector?
  3. Decent Work and Economic Growth: As COVID-19 has dramatically impacted SGBs, how can we ensure the sector continues to be a driver of economic growth in emerging markets?
  4. Diversity and Equity in Action: How can we create equitable spaces, elevate underrepresented voices, and drive change towards justice within our own organizations and the broader SGB sector?

We have designed an interactive and solution-focused event framework which will encourage opportunities for reflection and accountability in our actions. We hope that participants will feel reinvigorated and supported by this network to continue action beyond the event itself.

Please continue to refer to this page leading up to the event, as we will make updates as additional details are finalized.

Submit a session idea

The virtual Annual Conference will focus on four themes: Climate and Environmental Action, Gender Equality, Decent Work and Economic Growth, and Diversity and Equity in Action. The agenda includes small group discussions focused on identifying where members can add value to the sector and support fellow members’ initiatives. These sessions are designed to be participatory, lively, and action-oriented.

We invite ANDE members to submit ideas for the following eligible session types by July 31, 2020:

  1. Solution Salons: Topic area discussions that will start large and will be divided into small groups of 8-10 people to workshop solutions to thematic challenges either at ecosystem or organization/company levels. Solution salons will be separated into tracks based on the event’s thematic pillars.
    • There is a separate form to apply to be a session moderator. Note: Unlike past conferences, members submitting session ideas will not necessarily become the moderators. If your challenge is selected, you will be asked to present and the set the stage for the discussion.
  2. Fail Faire: An ANDE Annual Conference tradition, the ANDE “Fail Faire” presents an opportunity for ANDE member organizations to discuss failure and lessons learned from it in a relaxed setting.
  3. ANDE Campfire Activities: Member-led sessions peppered throughout the conference. Each session will be 25 minutes and the topic can be anything of interest – either personally or professionally. Potential ideas include: yoga, your favorite hobby or recipe swaps - the sky is the limit!
Due to limited availability and high interest, we will accept one submission form per organization; session submissions are not guaranteed a slot in the agenda and may be subject to alteration or combination with another similar session.

For questions related to the agenda, please contact Khatuchi Khasandi.
