GSG Millennial Honors
 Congratulations to the
GSG Millennial Honors 2017 Awardees!

ANDE, in partnership with the Global Steering Group for Impact Investment (GSG), an independent multilateral catalyzing impact investment and entrepreneurship, has selected three impact entrepreneurs under 30 years of age to honor at the inaugural GSG Millennial Honors award ceremony. 

Judges reviewed more than sixty applications, looking for inspiring young entrepreneurial founders from around the world whose businesses provide social impact while producing positive revenue. The following winners were selected based on the criteria described below, and were flown to Chicago to participate in the GSG Global Impact Summit.

The Awardees 

Vijay Bhalaki, Co-Founder & Director of Athena Infonomics

Vijay Bhalaki is a Co-founder & Director at Athena Infonomics. He leads strategic initiatives and overall operations of the firm. Vijay works closely with development agencies, private sector clients and Governments on strategic advisory assignments. His research interests include public private partnerships (PPPs), public finance, and social infrastructure development. He is known for his unique entrepreneurial zest that he brings to work and advisory engagements. Vijay earned his degree in Chartered Accountancy from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and also holds a Masters in Economics from the National University of Singapore and University of Madras.

About Athena Infonomics: Athena Infonomics is a fast-growing policy research and development analytics firm with a focus on strengthening the use of data and social science research to solve development and inclusive growth issues around the world. Lisa Curtis, Founder & CEO of Kuli Kuli

Lisa Curtis began working on Kuli Kuli while in the Peace Corps in Niger, West Africa. As a volunteer in her village’s health center, she gained a first-hand understanding of the common nutritional challenges faced in West African villages and how moringa can play a role in helping to address a few of those challenges. Kuli Kuli sells delicious moringa products in the US that help improve nutrition and livelihoods in West Africa where the moringa is sourced. She writes for a variety of outlets including Forbes, The Huffington Post and Grist. Lisa has been recognized as a StartingBloc Fellow, a Wild Gift Better World Entrepreneur, an Ashoka Emerging Innovator and a Udall Scholar. She was recently listed on both the GreenBiz and the University of California Global Food Initiative lists of 30 Under 30 leaders.

Michael Kapps, CEO & Founder, TNH Digital Health

Michael Kapps is a Canadian entrepreneur, CEO and co-founder of Tá Na Hora (TNH Digital Health). Before starting TNH, Michael was a consultant at McKinsey and Company in Silicon Valley / San Francisco, mainly working in the area of pharmaceuticals and health care. Michael graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College with a degree of economics, and can speak English, Portuguese, and Russian.

The 2017 Award Requirements

The 2017 round of applications for the GSG Millennial Honors sought nominations fulfilling the following criteria:

  • The honorees must be no more than 30 years of age on 30 June 2017. In case of co-founders, one of the co-founders must meet this age criteria.
  • The honorees must have founded and incorporated a social or environmental impact venture, either as a for-profit (i.e., profit with purpose) company, non-profits, co-operative or as other legal forms no later than 30 June 2015.
  • Impact ventures qualified to apply must be at least two years old, have experienced significant revenue and/or earned fees growth, and must demonstrate measurable impact, scalability, and sustainability.
