Keynote Speaker: Manuel Wiechers Banuet, CEO and founder of Iluméxico
Keynote speaker Manuel Wiechers Banuet shared his entrepreneurial journey from being a recent college graduate interested in renewable energy 9 years ago, to being the CEO of a company employing 60 people and bringing light to 16,000 homes in Mexico - and counting. Manuel also gave the ANDE community a lot to think about in terms of making and measuring sustainable impact and understanding how ecosystem actors can be most supportive to entrepreneurs like himself. Check out a post-interview video recap here.

Keynote Speaker, Manuel Wiechers Banuet of Iluméxico

Plenary: Behind the Conference Room Doors:  How Funders Make Decisions in the SGB Sector
Nicholas Colloff of Argidius Foundation, Carol Dahl from The Lemelson Foundation, Whitney Dubinski from USAID, and Liesel Pritzker Simmons of Blue Haven Initiative discussed the myriad of ways that their organizations make decisions to drive the SGB sector forward. They also gave ANDE members an inside look at how organizations like theirs evaluate their entrepreneurship-related grants and how those experiences have influenced their funding strategies at large.

ANDE Annual Conference 2018 Breakout Session

ANDE members also shared new ideas and challenges to the SGB sector through ten-minute Micro-Talks:

  • Dean Hand, from Ashburton Investments, spoke about ways that philanthropic capital can unlock traditional capital to accomplish more for the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
  • Max Cuvellier, representing GSMA Mobile for Development Foundation, shared how mobile operator partners can be one of the keys for them to unlock scale and impact.
  • Ernesto Herrera, of Reforestamos Mexico, discussed how the SGB sector could harness the power of SGBs to make landscape restoration profitable.
  • Jonathan Leape, with IGC, spoke about how the SGB sector can learn from the creative process of success and failure to develop new, more effective approaches for targeting, training or finance that are far more effective.
  • Shashank Mani, representing Jagriti, introduced the "Middle of the Diamond" metaphor and asked how it could shine through enterprise.

Microtalk speaker, Max Cuvellier of GSMA
