Confirmed Speakers

With the aim of showing varied perspectives on the topic of impact investing, Impacto 2018 includes national and international speakers representing leading organizations in their respective lines of work.

 Anita Fiori, Lead Investment Officer, IADB-MIF

Anita has seventeen years of experiences with development banks. She started her career at the Brazilian National Development Bank, developing the microcredit market in Brazil. Later she worked in operations for Development Alternatives Inc., for the IFC and the World Bank, in projects focused on developing micro and small enterprises and innovation. She is currently responsible for supervision of venture capital funds in Brazil, Central America and Caribbean at the IADB’s Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF). Anita holds a Masters in Finance from Johns Hopkins University, a Masters in International Relations from Georgetown University and a Bachelor in Economics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.

 

 

Daniel Izzo, Founding Partner & CEO, VOX Capital

Daniel is partner, co-founder and CEO at Vox Capital, Brazil’s pioneering and leading impact investing fund manager, listed for 5 consecutive years as one of the most relevant players on the impact investing space Worldwide by the Impact Assets 50 and subject of a Harvard Business School business case: “Vox Capital: Pioneering Impact Investing in Brazil”.

Daniel is a member of the Global Executive Committee at ANDE, board member of the Brazilian Social Finance Task Force, leader of the Impact Investing Working Group at ABVCAP, and a professor of the Impact Investing Executive Program at the Said Business School in Oxford.

 

 

Diogo Quitério, Program Coordinator, ICE (Institute for Corporate Citizenship)

Diogo is Program Coordinator at ICE (Institute for Corporate Citizenship) working on the Alliance for Impact Investing & Business with field-building for impact investing and business. Previously, he worked for 7 years at Instituto Votorantim, in planning and management of the social Votorantim Group companies’ initiatives. He also worked at the agency Significa, helping clients such as Vale, Natura and Votorantim with their social investments, and at TV Cultura/Fundação Padre Anchieta with licensing for cultural brands. He is a graduate in Public Administration from FGV, and has a specialization in Social Psychology from FEPSP.

 

 

Edgard Barki – Professor, GV Business School; Coordinator, GVcenn

Edgard Barki is Professor at FGV Business School. He holds a PhD and a Masters in Business Administration, also from FGV. He is currently Head of GVcenn (Center for Entrepreneurship and New Business), and advisor for Artemisia, Dinamo, Instituto Coca-Cola Brasil and Vivenda. He has authored several articles in national and international journals in the areas of social entrepreneurship and the base of the pyramid. He was co-organizer of the books "Business with Social Impact in Brazil" and "Retail for the low income”, and co-author of the book "Retail in Brazil".

 

 

 Fabio Tran Director, Investments, Omidyar Network

Fabio is a director at Omidyar Network where he leads the firm’s education strategy and investments in Brazil and collaborates on investments in Latin America. Fabio worked for four years at Rocket Internet, where he last served as senior vice president of venture development, taking different leadership and c-level roles in early stage portfolio companies across Latin America and Europe. He also worked as Executive Director at Fundação Estudar and interim Director for Policy and Strategy at Endeavor Brazil, and is currently a board member at Instituto Semeia.

Fabio holds an MPA from Harvard University, an MBA from Northwestern University, and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Sao Paulo.

 Fernanda Camargo, founding partner, Wright Capital

Fernanda Camargo is founding partner of Wright Capital Wealth Management. She was previously a partner at Vinci Partners, at Gávea Arsenal Wealth Management and at Arsenal Investments. She has also worked in the treasury at Standard Bank and in Capital Markets at Deutsche Bank. Fernanda began her career at Merrill Lynch’s private bank in San Francisco, in 1994. She is one of the founders of Instituto LiveWright, a civil society organization dedicated to the management of Olympic sport in Brazil, and a board member of the NGO Atletas pelo Brasil (Atheletes for Brazil). She studied Economics at the Pontifical Catholic University in Sao Paulo.  

 

 

 Frederic de Mariz, Executive Director, UBS

Frederic is Executive Director at UBS. Responsible for the coverage of Financial Institutions in Latin America, he has 15 years of experience in investment banking in London, New York, Mexico and São Paulo, working at UBS, JPMorgan and Goldman Sachs. His team has been ranked top 3 in industry surveys, and was ranked #1 in Impact Investing by Euromoney 2017. Frederic is also Adjunct Professor at Columbia University. He completed his PhD in Finance at University of Sao Paulo, focusing on electronic payments and financial inclusion. He is a member of the Brazilian Private Equity  & Venture Capital Association and the sustainability Committee at Febraban.

 

 

 Gilberto Ribeiro, Partner, VOX Capital

Gilberto has held positions in finance, consulting, project management and organizational development, at companies such as Caixa Economica Federal, PwC and Vale. He joined VOX in 2011, shortly after leaving the town of Moatize, in the interior of Mozambique, where he worked at Vale’s first Greenfield coal operation. Gilberto holds a degree in Business Administration from the University of Sao Paulo and is studying for a Masters degree in Economics at Insper.

 

 

 

Humberto Matsuda, Managing Partner, Performa Investimentos

Humberto is the partner responsible for early stage VC funds at Performa Investimentos. He is a law graduate from Universidade de São Paulo, and has an MBA in Finance, Communication and Investor Relations from FIPECAFI. He is currently a member of the advisory board at ABVCAP, and participates in the management boards of various companies. He is a mentor for startup acceleration programs in Brazil, Latin America and the US. Since 2007 he has specialized in managing venture capital investments with a particular focus on technological innovation. He is a speaker at diverse courses, seminars and conferences.

 

 

  

 Luciana Aguiar – Private Sector Partnerships Manager, UNDP Brazil

Luciana Aguiar is Private Sector Partnerships Manager for the United Nations Development Program in Brazil. Holding a PhD in Anthropology from Cornell University, she has taught as guest researcher at the University of Sao Paulo, FGV Business School and Fundação Dom Cabral. A social entrepreneur, Luciana has worked with the base of the pyramid population for 22 years, conducting studies and ethnographic research for organizations such as IADB, CGAP, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Avina Foundation, Inspirare, Potencia Ventures and British Council. She has worked on private sector projects in knowledge management, impact evaluation and innovation across the financial, education, health, technology, consumer goods, retail and communications sectors.

 

 Luciana Ribeiro – Partner & Co-founder, EB Capital

Luciana Antonini Ribeiro is partner and co-founder of EB Capital, an investment firm focused on middle market companies. She is also member of the board and of the investment committee at e.Bricks Ventures, a venture capital firm focused on companies with disruptive business models. Luciana previously occupied several leadership positions at Grupo RBS, leading diverse investment and divestment processes. A Law graduate, she holds a Masters in Commercial Law from the University of Sao Paulo and an MBA from Columbia Business School.

 

 

 

 Murilo Menezes, Institutional Relations, Maraé Investimentos

Murilo Menezes is responsible for institutional relations at Maraé Investments, the family holding of social entrepreneur and Natura cofounder Guilherme Leal. Besides directly supporting the executive leadership, his main focus is on the New Economy and Impact Investing movements. From 2010 to 2015 he worked in the financial industry, for companies such as Itau BBA and Goldman Sachs. At Itau he was member of one of the investment committees of the Itau Social Foundation and responsible for creating the Mobiliza committee for volunteering.

He graduated in Economics from the University of Sao Paulo, and holds a Masters in Adaptive Leadership and Public Management from the Center for Public Leadership, in partnership with Harvard Kennedy School.

 

 Nataniel Simon, Partner, Kaeté Investimentos

Nataniel is a partner at Kaeté Investimentos. He has worked in the private equity market for more than 10 years. Before joining Kaeté, Nataniel was a partner at BRZ Investimentos focusing on investments in infrastructure/logistics and agribusiness, where he participated in different phases of the private equity fund management process. Additionally he is co-founder and CEO (Pro-bono) of the crowdfunding platform ‘Juntos com Você’, recognized by the Google Impact Award as one of the best NGOs using technology to create impact. Nataniel is a graduate in Computer Engineering from the Polytechnic School at the University of São Paulo.

 

 

 Patrick Cannell, Partner, Performa Investimentos

Patrick Cannell is a partner at Performa Investimentos, where he shares responsibility for investments in cleantech and impact. Before joining Performa, Patrick worked at BCG on strategic projects and in investee companies, holding positions in finance, M&A and corporate finance. Patrick graduated in Civil Engineering from the Pontifical Catholic University of Parana and in Business Administration from FAE Business School. He also has an MBA from ESADE Business School.

 

 

 

Patrick Maloney, founder, Occam Advisors

Patrick Maloney is founder of Occam Advisors, a consultancy helping foundations and families design and implement impact investment strategies.  In this role, Patrick advises Potencia Ventures, which invests in funds and businesses that support entrepreneurial ecosystems that serve low-income populations.   Prior to Occam Advisors, he was a Principal with Imprint Capital (now part of Goldman Sachs) where he was Head of Strategy.  Prior to Imprint, he was Program Director for The Lemelson Foundation, where he headed the Foundation’s investments in for-profit and non-profit organizations. He began his career with Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation, recipient of the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize.  

 

 

Randall Kempner, Executive Director, Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE).

As executive director of ANDE, Randall oversees the implementation of ANDE’s extensive program, research and advocacy agenda, including its seven international chapters and multiple grant and challenge competitions that support the entrepreneurship sector. Randall has twenty years of experience in the field of international economic development. Most recently, he served as Vice President for Regional Innovation at the U.S. Council on Competitiveness and prior to that was a founder of OTF Group. Randall graduated from the University of Texas with an M.B.A and an M.P.Aff. He earned his bachelor's degree in Government from Harvard College.

 

Rodrigo Menezes, Partner, Derraik & Menezes Associates

Rodrigo is founding partner at law firm Derraik & Menezes Advogados, Chairman of the Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital Committee of ABVCAP, and board member of the Brazilian Social Finance Task Force. As an attorney, Rodrigo represents foreign and local VCs, corporate ventures, startups and entrepreneurs in venture capital and impact investment deals. He is a professor at Fundação Getúlio Vargas and INSPER, teaching legal aspects of venture capital and private equity investments, is a regular speaker at conferences and seminars in Brazil and internationally, and author or contributor to several articles. 
Rodrigo holds a Masters in Law from IE - Madrid and attended the Venture Capital Executive Program at Haas School of Business, UC- Berkeley.

 

Rodrigo Villar, Founding Partner, New Ventures Mexico

Rodrigo is Founding Partner of New Ventures Mexico. New Ventures catalyses the growth of green and social enterprises, combining a diverse set of technical assistance and acceleration services with Adobe Capital, its equity and mezzanine finance arm. 
Rodrigo was also founder of the FLII (Latin America Impact Investing Forum), is Chair of the Mexico Impact Investing Alliance, and on the boards of Iniciativa México and CI Banco. He is an Ashoka Fellow, and was named one of the 40 leading young CEO’s in Latin America by Latin Trade Magazine. Rodrigo has an MBA from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, and a Bachelor of Accounting and Financial Management degree from the Tecnologico de Monterrey. 

 

Prof. Sergio Lazzarini, Professor, Chafi Haddad Chair for Business Research and Coordinator, Insper Metricis

Sergio Lazzarini is a resident professor of the Chafi Haddad Chair at Insper Business School, and Coordinator of Insper Metricis. He holds a PhD in Management from Washington University and a Masters in Management from the University of Sao Paulo. Author of the book Capitalismo de Laços (Campus/Elsevier, 2011) and Reinventing state capitalism: Leviathan in business, Brazil and beyond (Harvard University Press, 2014). Professor Lazzarini is also a columnist for Veja magazine.

 

 

Valeria Gelsi, Equity Officer, Oikocredit

Valeria is responsible for managing new investment opportunities and existing investments in South America. With Oikocredit since 2010, she oversaw portfolio management in the South America South region until 2012. Previously, Valeria spent three years working as a financial & operational risk head in a microfinance institution in Bolivia, and four years in a multinational beer company in Uruguay, in various finance, planning and commercial roles. Valeria started her career as an audit assistant in an international firm in Uruguay. She has a Masters in Management and Costs from University of Uruguay (UDELAR) and graduated as a public accountant (University of Uruguay).
